How Long Will Things Take at My Wedding?
We’ve seen our fair share of weddings over the years and we have learned over time how long some of the most popular things take! Don’t stress out about your photos, timeline, or day and learn from our years of wedding experience! Don’t ask yourself, “How long will things take at my wedding?” and learn exactly what to expect for the big day:
- Are you wanting getting ready hair/makeup photos? – Set our arrival at the middle part of makeup (nobody wants photos without makeup on!). These photos take about 30 minutes to 1 hour total. I usually recommend beginning 3 hours before the ceremony, or 4 hours before the ceremony if you’re including a first look.
- Are you wanting a first look? You’ll want us to arrive 3 hours before the ceremony, 2 hours prior to if no detail photos of the dress or shoes. A first look takes 30 minutes total.
- Are you wanting lots of details of your dress, shoes, etc? Have us arrive 2 hours before the ceremony, 3 hours if including a first look and 4 hours before the ceremony if including hair/makeup photos. In that amount of time, we can also grab photos of your reception decor if it’s in the same location.
- Are you not wanting a ton of getting ready coverage? No details? For getting into dress only, we will want to arrive one hour prior to your ceremony.
Common amounts of time for wedding events:
Most ceremonies: Add 15-30 minutes
, 1 hour to 1.5 hours if Catholic Mass
Bubble send off?: Add 15 mins
Receiving line?: Add 30 mins to an hour, depending on how many guests
Family formals?: Add 30 mins
Bridal party?: Add 30 mins, 45 if more than 10 or wanting lots of variety (we usually just do a few poses)
Photos of couple: Add 30 minutes minimum
Introductions, Toasts, Dinner, Dances, cake, etc: Add 15 mins for each event and discuss with your DJ.
No anniversary dance, bouquet/garter, etc?: 2.5 hours after dinner begins is fine for us to end. Including these events or some of them?: Add 30 mins, making us there 3 hours after dinner begins. Depending on the events and how early dinner starts, we typically end anywhere from 9-10:30.
Sunset photos?: Add 30 mins before sunset (use Google to see sunset time or ask us to look and build it into your timeline)
We hope this quick run down of events helps you learn how long things will take at your wedding!
