Name: Jen Linehan, OCF, CFD (Ohio Certified Florist, Certified Floral Designer- only in NWO!)
Years in business?: Beautiful Blooms by Jen began when I started doing weddings from my house 10 years ago while I was still teaching floral design for Toledo Public Schools at the Natural Science Technology Center. We started with 12 weddings the first year, 28 the next and over 50 the next and so I decided it was time to open a full retail shop and go full time. Having my own flower shop had been my dream since high school so it was so cool to make my dreams a reality.
Title/Company?: Beautiful Blooms by Jen, Owner and Floral Artist
What kinds of flowers hold up the best for a wedding?: The key to flowers holding up for your wedding is a lot of proper care and handling before you receive them. There are always flowers that are finicky on a wedding day or aren’t very durable and that is what we would discuss during your free consultation once we learn more about your wedding and what you’re looking for. Our job is to educate you on what will be perfect for your day and budget. Beautiful Blooms by Jen requires a water source on every bouquet that goes out the door which helps the flowers last all day at your wedding. We do everything we possibly can so your flower are perfect but we also need the bride and photographer’s help so that they aren’t out in 90 degree heat for hours before the ceremony. This is why we love working with Luckybird Photography because we work together on your timeline before the wedding to make sure everything will be perfect for you.
How important is it to have seasonal flowers?: It totally depends on the look of your wedding. Many flowers are now grown year round, like hydrangea and roses. If you want something like a peony, there is a specific window in the spring-early summer that they are available. When they aren’t available, dahlias are a great other option. We love when brides share with us some pictures of the arrangements they love and their budget, and we discuss their needs and then we are able to recommend flowers that would be perfect for them.
Current trends/colors?: We are seeing lots of mixed metals which we love! Silvers, golds and rose golds all in the same wedding. We are also seeing a move away from baby’s breath and mason jars.
What do you recommend for centerpieces?: We recommend at least two different heights, if not three. And candles! Candles just add romance for an evening event. We love giving your guests different options to look at as they walk throughout the room. We also recommend meeting with us before you start buying a bunch of vases and candles because we have a large inventory of rental items that you can borrow for the day of your wedding instead of buying them all. Then you give them back at the end without having to resell them all or keeping tons of vases.
When should a couple book you?: ASAP : ) As soon as you have your date booked, venues booked and your colors chosen, it is time to chat about flowers. We need to know your date so we can make sure we’re still available, your venue so we can talk specifically about altar flowers, etc, and your colors so we can talk specific flowers. We recommend at least 9 months, if not a year out.
Do you deliver?: We do! We are one of the only florists in NWO that fully service our weddings. So we are there to pin on corsages, boutonnieres, show you how to hold your bouquet and make sure everything is perfect!
Anything you want to add that I am missing? Common questions you get asked thatI left out?: Our goal is for you to walk into the wedding of your dreams! We just started doing consultations a little differently. We have you fill out a wedding worksheet before your consultation and we are able to have an interactive quote ready for during your consultation to go over everything and it includes pricing! It allows me to show you where the costs are coming from. For example it shows how prices jump when peonies are added or taken out. We’re so excited for this new program! We also price ourselves in taking care of long distance brides. Since we’re tech savvy we have many brides we never even meet until their wedding day!
