Last Saturday, I had the honor of photographing Paige and Alyssa’s enchanting outdoor ceremony on the patio at Maumee Bay State Park Lodge in Oregon, Ohio. With a backdrop of lush greenery and a gentle lake breeze, their same-sex wedding, featuring a medium blue and light purple color palette, was the perfect blend of simple, classy, and heartfelt DIY touches.
A Love That Started in a Basement
Their story began in Alyssa’s basement, thanks to Dana—Alyssa’s childhood best friend and Paige’s college roommate. A casual summer hangout turned out to be the moment they met in person for the first time. Fast-forward to last Saturday: the two brides descended separately on opposite staircases, each stepping into one of the dual aisles. Their mirrored entrance was a beautiful visual of their partnership.
First Looks & Family
Getting ready in the cozy Maumee Bay cabins set an intimate tone for the day. We captured a sweet first look on the park’s iconic boardwalk—and included their beloved dog for some photos later.
A Non-Religious Candle Unity Ceremony
Under clear skies with Toy Story clouds (my fav), Paige and Alyssa led a non-religious unity candle lighting. They each lit the central unity candle, then passed the flame to family and friends, symbolizing the shared warmth and support surrounding their union.
Reception by Sunset & S’mores
Inside the Maumee Bay Lodge, guests enjoyed a stunning sunset view through panoramic windows. The evening ended perfectly around a fire pit with DIY s’mores and good vibes.
As a Maumee Bay wedding photographer, it’s moments like these—raw, personal, and bursting with color—that make every frame unforgettable. Congratulations to Paige and Alyssa on a day as unique and lovely as their story!
