Thereโs something so meaningful about keeping a wedding day simple and close to the heart. Carrie and Matthew chose to celebrate their marriage in the most intentional wayโjust the two of them, two close friends, and me documenting the day.
Their Sunday ceremony took place in a park near the David Whitney Hotel, with Matthewโs friend Kyle officiating. The city was alive with the sounds of the Detroit Jazz Festival, which meant the streets were closed and surprisingly easy to navigate. It felt like the city itself had created a little pocket of calm just for them. Everyone was cheering and clapping as they passed.
After vows were exchanged, we explored some of Detroitโs most iconic spots. The Guardian Buildingโwith its colorful architecture and soaring ceilingsโwas the perfect backdrop for portraits, and gave us time to slow down and soak in the joy of the day. We also explored the Belt, a wonderful alleyway filled with murals and bright colors.
The evening ended with a small, intimate dinner at Zuzu. Surrounded by champagne, noodles, and laughter, Carrie and Matthew shared photos and stories with their friends, reflecting on their journey together. It was simple, heartfelt, and unforgettable.
From the energy of downtown Detroit to the quiet moments between them, Carrie and Matthewโs wedding day proved that you donโt need a big guest list for it to be beautifulโyou just need love, intention, and the people who mean the most. Congrats, Carrie and Matthew! It was an honor spending Sunday with you!
