This past Saturday, I had the incredible honor of capturing Monica and Vasiliy’s wedding at the beautiful Toledo Country Club. While the day started with clouds hanging low in the sky and a few sprinkles of rain, it only added to the cozy and romantic atmosphere of the event. The weather couldn’t dampen the joy and love that was shared for the stunning celebration.

Monica and Vasiliy’s love story began at Bowling Green State University, where they met one fateful Thursday night. As they shared with me, they were both at a bar called Doc’s with mutual friends when Vasiliy confidently sat down next to Monica, introducing himself. That simple introduction was the start of something extraordinary. They spent the entire evening together, talking late into the night, and the very next day, Vasiliy reached out to Monica’s roommate (who also happened to be their mutual friend) to ask for Monica’s number. The rest, as they say, is history—by the next evening, they were already inseparable.

Vasiliy’s proposal to Monica was a reflection of their relationship—sweet, simple, and meaningful. He proposed to her in the comfort of their own home, which made the moment even more special. As Monica walked in from work, she found Vasiliy on one knee, holding a ring in one hand and their adorable cat, Venus, in the other. Monica’s engagement ring is an incredibly sentimental piece, crafted from her late grandmother’s ring. They had even gone together to have it redesigned a few months before the proposal, making it a true symbol of their shared love and family connection.

Monica’s vision for their wedding day was a perfect mix of romance and fun, with a garden party vibe that came together beautifully. The Toledo Country Club provided a perfect backdrop for their vision, with its lush greenery and open spaces. Despite the clouds early in the day, the colors they chose for the decor and colorful florals brought the day to life. Monica had picked vibrant, multicolored flowers for the centerpieces, which stood out beautifully against the crisp white tablecloths and linens.

The contrast of Monica’s bridal party dressed in medium blue tones against Vasiliy’s tan and white blended linen suit added a fresh, elegant look to the day. As they stood together for portraits, the mix of colors looked breathtaking against the natural surroundings of the venue.

One of the most touching parts of the day was the inclusion of a Ukrainian tradition close to Vasiliy’s heritage—the Rushnyk, an embroidered towel used during their unity ceremony. It was a hand-tying ceremony, where Monica and Vasiliy’s hands were bound together using the Rushnyk, symbolizing their unity and the joining of their lives. It was a beautiful, intimate moment that added a deep cultural significance to the ceremony and was truly an honor to witness and capture. Their dog, Jupiter, walked down the aisle with Vasiliy and was the bestest girl for photos!

I loved capturing their wedding, not just for its beauty, but for the deep connection Monica and Vasiliy share. Their love story is one of simplicity, genuine emotion, and the kind of bond that stands the test of time. Congratulations, Monica and Vasiliy! I’m so grateful to have been a part of your unforgettable day. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness, love, and joy!
