So you’re engaged and you’ve been thinking about a date and possibly a wedding budget. We couldn’t be happier for you! Planning a wedding from start to finish is tough work! I am sure you’ve asked yourself how you can save money and looked for any tricks or hacks online. Well, we are about to reveal our biggest wedding secret when it comes to setting a date! This secret works well for Toledo weddings, but would also apply anywhere with an “off season”.
What’s the biggest secret we as Toledo wedding photographers can give you? WINTER WEDDINGS! They offer a magical time of year for your family and friends, but you can also use the venue’s decor in most situations! Think about it: get married in the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas and you’ll have gorgeous 10-foot trees, poinsettias, string lights, bows, wreaths, and lots of beautiful decorations galore to work with! Be super savvy and choose red as an accent color (think bridesmaids dresses and vests/pocket squares for the groomsmen) and you’ll tie into everything! Red for a bridesmaid tied n with an ivory or white wedding gown makes for a beautiful color palette. There are plenty of ways to tie into the decor without it looking too “Chrstmas-sy”.
Thinking of a winter wedding? Look at halls and venue spaces (carpet too!) and see if it coordinates or clashes and see if they have some photos of the past few years it was decorated. Same with churches, if applicable. Ask them when the decorations go up after Thanksgiving. Ask them what they do about snow, ice, and parking in those situations. Your guests will appreciate knowing any information you can give them!
Large Christmas trees make great backdrops for family photos! Even if you don’t use them formally in any photos, guests will pose themselves and have a friend take a photo of them with the tree.
Dress accordingly for your winter photos – we recommend fun accents like top hats, faux fur coats, and capes! They add an element of drama to your photos and they help paint the scene – even if there isn’t any snow!
We hope these money saving tips help you plan your Toledo wedding!
